[Part 05] MY WIFE DIED YEARS AGO… AND EVERY MONTH I SENT HER MOTHER $300

The Knock That Ends Everything

The knock on the door wasn’t gentle.

It wasn’t polite.

It was forceful.

Demanding.

Final.

“Open up!”

A man’s voice.

Sharp.

Controlled.

Dangerous.

Clara started shaking.

“Oh God… oh God…”

Marina grabbed my arm.

“You need to leave. Now.”

“I’m not leaving you,” I said.

“You don’t understand—”

“I understand enough.”

The knock came again.

Harder.

“WE KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE.”

My heart pounded.

Every instinct screaming that something was very, very wrong.

“Who are they?” I asked.

Marina’s voice dropped to a whisper.

“The ones who were supposed to make sure I never came back.”

Silence.

Then—

A crash.

The front door breaking open.

Footsteps.

Heavy.

Fast.

Coming closer.

Marina looked at me.

And in her eyes—

I saw something I had never seen before.

Not fear.

Not panic.

Something else.

Something final.

“If anything happens,” she whispered, “you need to remember this—”

“What?”

But before she could finish—

The door burst open.

And the last thing I saw…

Was the man stepping inside—

Smiling like he already knew how this was going to end.
