[Part 02] Billionaire Freezes When He Sees His Missing Wife as a Waitress… Then Notices She’s Pregnant

The Price of Pride

Chris didn’t leave the restaurant that night.

Vanessa did.

She stood up abruptly, her chair scraping loudly against the polished floor, drawing even more attention.
“This is insane,” she snapped, grabbing her purse. “I’m not sitting here while you play… whatever this is.”

Chris didn’t even look at her.

For once in his life, he didn’t care who was watching.

Didn’t care about reputation.
Didn’t care about appearances.
Didn’t care about control.

The only thing that mattered stood five feet away from him… wearing a waitress uniform and carrying his child.

Vanessa scoffed when he didn’t respond.
“You’re choosing this?” she said, her voice dripping with disbelief.

Still nothing.

And that silence…
was louder than any answer.

She left.

Chris exhaled slowly, like the air in his lungs had been trapped for months. Then he turned back to Lily.

“Can we talk?” he asked.

Lily hesitated.

For just a second.

Then she nodded toward the back.
“I have a ten-minute break.”

The staff room was small. Quiet. Dim.

Nothing like the world Chris lived in.

Lily sat down first, carefully lowering herself into a chair, one hand instinctively resting on her belly.

Chris noticed that.

And something twisted inside his chest.

“You shouldn’t be working like this,” he said.

Lily gave a soft, tired laugh.
“And you shouldn’t be deciding what I should or shouldn’t do anymore.”

That hit harder than he expected.

Chris stepped closer.
“I can fix this,” he said. “You don’t need to struggle. You don’t need this job. You don’t need—”

“I needed you,” Lily interrupted quietly.

Silence.

Heavy. Suffocating.

Chris froze.

Lily looked at him—not angry, not dramatic.

Just… honest.

“I needed you to listen,” she continued. “I needed you to care about something other than your company for five minutes. I needed you to not make me feel like having a child was a mistake.”

Chris swallowed hard.

“I didn’t mean—”

“I know,” she said softly. “That’s the problem. You didn’t mean anything. You just… didn’t think about me at all.”

Every word was calm.

Measured.

But they cut deeper than shouting ever could.

Chris ran a hand through his hair.
“I was under pressure. The company—”

“The company always came first,” Lily finished.

And she wasn’t wrong.

That truth sat between them like something undeniable.

Chris looked down at her belly again.
“How far along are you?”

“Seven months.”

Seven months.

Seven months of missed moments.
Seven months of silence.
Seven months where he had no idea he was going to be a father.

A father.

The word didn’t feel real yet.

But it hit him anyway.

“I would’ve been there,” he said.

Lily didn’t argue.

She just asked one simple question:

“Would you?”

Chris opened his mouth…

And stopped.

Because for the first time—

He wasn’t sure.

Lily stood up slowly.
“My break’s over.”

“Lily, wait—”

“I’m not running anymore,” she said. “If you want to talk, you can come back. Like a normal person.”

Not a billionaire.

Not a man who controls everything.

Just… a man.

She walked out.

Leaving Chris standing there, realizing something terrifying:

For the first time in his life…

Money couldn’t solve this.

And if he didn’t change—

He might lose her again.

This time…

For good.
